Volunteers are always needed to support and assist our priests and the parish in celebrating the Mass and other liturgical celebrations and services throughout the year. These ministries include:

  • Altar Servers
  • Church Linens
  • Eucharistic Ministers
  • Gift Bearers
  • Greeters
  • Lectors
  • Ushers

Altar Servers

Altar servers assist the priest during Masses on the weekends, Holy Days, special liturgies, and at weddings and funerals. Servers may be young men and women in Grades 5-12 and adult men and women age 18 and over. A series of training sessions is required. Once a large enough group of students is assembled, the ministry coordinator schedules and communicates the dates and times of these sessions. Altar servers are assigned to one Mass on a given weekend and serve every 4-5 weeks depending upon our volunteer pool. A particular Mass can be accomodated if we receive this information in advance of scheduling. On Holy Days, servers may sign up in the Sacristy to assist, and they are contacted by the rectory when needed for funerals and weddings. If you would like more information, please contact:

Church Linens

These volunteers help our parish by laundering and ironing the Eucharistic linens for each week’s Masses. This ministry is home-based and perfect for someone who may want to help the parish from "behind-the-scenes." Based upon a rotating schedule, volunteers are asked to pick up dirty linens from the Sacristy following the 12:00 noon Mass on Sunday, and return them to the Sacristy or Rectory office—cleaned, folded and pressed—before the next Saturday evening Mass at 5:00 PM. Depending upon the size of our volunteer pool, a person is scheduled every 11-12 weeks. There are no meetings to attend. If you would like more information, please contact:

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers are practicing Catholics who have been commissioned by the parish to distribute Holy Communion during the Mass and at special liturgies. They are assigned to one of our regular weekend Masses and serve approximately twice each month according to a published schedule. For Holy Days, a sign-up sheet is used to schedule volunteers. We can accommodate a Mass preference or work around a known conflict if notified before the 20th of each month. St. Pius X commissions new Eucharistic Ministers every two years and will again commission in May 2018. Interested parishioners may sign up in April. Prior to commissioning, new ministers are asked to attend a training session. If you would like more information, please contact our ministry coordinator.

Gift Bearers

Gift bearers represent the parish worshipping community by bringing gifts of bread and wine to the altar where the priest accepts them for consecration. This is one of the easiest and important ministries to become involved meetings to attend, just attend Mass and carry the gifts down to the priest. It's a wonderful opportunity for families to serve together. Gift bearers are assigned to one of our weekend Masses and a rotating schedule is maintained. We can accomodate a specific Mass time or work around a known conflict if we know prior to the 20th of each month. For Holy Days, gift bearers are asked to sign up in the Sacristy. For more information or to volunteer, please contact our coordinator.

Greeters are responsible for welcoming each and every person who enters our church prior to Mass. Those who serve in this ministry have a goal to make worshippers feel like they belong and to encourage those entering to enjoy Mass. We also help answer simple questions for newcomers. We act as a “friendly face” to associate with our parish. This is a wonderful ministry for all ages, and we especially encourage families or ministry groups to serve together. Depending upon the size of our volunteer pool, greeters are scheduled every 6-9 weeks and for a single weekend Mass. We can accomodate a particular Mass if we know in advance of our schedule's publication in December of each year. Please contact our ministry coordinator if you are interested in being a greeter or have further questions.

Lectors are members of our community who share the Word of God with us at weekend Masses and at special liturgies. Lectors should be practicing Catholics, preferably age 16 or older. They are scheduled for a single weekend Mass and serve every 4-5 weeks of the year. Lectors are commissioned by the parish every two (2) years. Lectors will be commissioned again in May 2018. Signups will be held in April. New lectors are asked to attend a training session prior to commissioning. Please contact us if you would like more information about becoming a lector in our parish.

Ushers are adult parishioners who assist in preparing the church for weekend Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, and special liturgies as announced. They assist parishioners with any needs surrounding Mass. They greet parishioners and visitors, assist those with special needs, help members to find seating within the church, conduct offertory collection, and distribute bulletins. You should be a "people person" to enjoy this ministry. An usher is typically assigned to one Mass and serves every Sunday at their assigned Mass. A Head Usher for each Mass oversees a schedule and manages logistics. We can accommodate a particular Mass time and/or work around a known conflict with advance notice. On-the-job training provided! Please contact our coordinator for more information or to get involved.
