St. Pius X Church and School supports the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus by strictly enforcing the rules, guidelines and policies to Protect God’s Children.

This includes adherence to the Volunteer’s Code of Conduct and the Code of Pastoral Conduct, as well as requiring Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background checks, FBI fingerprinting, and mandatory attendance of the Protecting God’s Children for Adults© class by all employees and volunteers working with minor children, age 17 or younger.

The Protecting God's Children for Adults® program is conducted by trained VIRTUS facilitators and helps adults working with children build awareness for and recognition of child sexual abuse. VIRTUS is a program and service of The National Catholic Risk Retention Group, Inc.

Working with Children & Teens Under Age 17

Those volunteers or staff members who will be working with children or teens under the age of 17 in any capacity must comply with the following requirements. Once completed, St. Pius X Parish maintains this documentation for all parish and school volunteers.

1. BCI and FBI Fingerprinting — You must have a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check and FBI fingerprinting. No volunteer may work with minors without the results of the BCI check, and volunteers coming from other states must have FBI and BCI prior to volunteering. There is a cost incurred for these procedures. For fastest results, St. Pius X Parish recommends using the Pickerington Police Department, 1311 Refugee Road 43147 which provides Webcheck.

Results of your BCI report and FBI fingerprinting must be sent to the Diocese of Columbus at:

Diocesan Safe Environments Office
197 East Gay St.
Columbus, Ohio 43215-3229

2. Protecting God's Children® Program — All volunteers who will work with minors in our parish must complete the Protecting God's Children© (PGC) Program. There is no cost for the PGC workshop. The program is conducted year-round throughout the diocese at various parish facilities. You may access its schedule and sign up for a program through A copy of your completion certificate should be returned to the parish. Once you attend a PGC workshop, your certification follows you in every diocese nationwide.

If you have additional questions about our procedures or how to attain the needed documentation so that you may volunteer, please contact our parish office.
